Citizenship

What is citizenship?

A standard dictionary definition of citizenship reads as follows:

citizenship     noun

  1. the position or status of being a citizen of a particular country.

However, citizenship surely means much more than this, particularly within an educational context.

During the early years and primary education, Citizenship helps children's social development, enabling them to engage with others, to devlelop understanding of their communties and society, and providing opportunities for responsible and active citizenship. As global citizens, for example, pupils will explore the concept of human rights and responsibilities.
