  • Active Time in Maths

    Published 17/05/18, by Classical Class

This week in Maths we have been revisiting work on time.  Today we took our Maths outside and in partners tested each other with giving a time and writing that time using analogue and digital.

I continue to be surprised by the number of children who still struggle to tell the time in Year 3...please practice with your child at home, it is a basic life skill that they need to be able to do.

In preparation for our Roman Day on Monday we have been designing and making our own Roman Scutum (shield).  Our designs have been based on those made and used in Roman times.  We will be using these on Monday in our re-enactment of a Roman battle...who will win?  Classical or Jazz?!

  • Golf Club begins!

    Published 10/05/18, by Classical Class

Mr Brown and Mr Carbon began the brand new year 3 golf club today! We focused on the basic aspects of the game, including sportsmanship, good manners, posture, hand-eye coordination and patience and discussed the equipment needed to play.

The children had a lot of fun and began working on developing a basic swing technique. Next week we will look at the many rules of the game!

If you have not signed your child up for the club yet, please do not hesitate to in the school office, or see me at the end of the school day.

  • Light - investigating reflective materials.

    Published 01/05/18, by Classical Class

In Science today we used torches to help find the shiniest materials.  The torch light was reflected off the object into a piece of black card.  We observed which object gave out the brightest reflection and therefore which object was the shiniest.  The CD and flat piece of tin foil were the most reflective objects.  The pictures are a little fuzzy because we had to make it as dark as possible in the classroom!

  • Tag Rugby

    Published 25/04/18, by Classical Class

Year 3 are learning how to play Tag Rugby this term.  We enjoyed our first session on Monday.  We discovered there are a lot of different components to this sport - not only do you have to throw and catch an odd shaped ball but you have to spin it at the same time as well as only throwing it backwards!  On top of that you have to wear a tag belt with two tags hanging off it.  Opponents have to 'tag' you by pulling the tag off your belt.  Let's hope a few more weeks of this sport will make us remember all the rules and be brilliant at it!  Watch this space for an update!
