Year 4 Swimming Gala - By Ella & Dana
Yesterday, the 23rd June, 4ES and 4TH had a swimming gala. The first race was front crawl. At the end of the pool there was someone telling us what place we got. The next race was a back stroke. A lot of people found this difficult but everyone still cheered. Finally the last race, it was the hardest race. Everyone was in a pair and we had a woggle each. It was a relay race. We had to hold the woggle on each end until we got to the end and passed the woggle to the next pair. We do not yet know who won but the good thing is we all had fun!
Updates from around the school:
Oxfordshire Youth Orchestra at Birmingham Symphony Hall
Some children went to Birmingham Symphony Hall to perform with the Oxfordshire Youth Orchestra. It was an amazing venue and we were so privileged to be performing our instruments with some very talented young people. It was a long day, with us arriving back at school after midnight but we all had a fantastic time. Thank you to Mrs Williams and Mr Jee for giving up their Saturday to take us there!
Glee Club - Voice in a Million
Glee club went to the Voices in a Million concert at Wembley Arena to sing with 5000 other children from schools around the country. The atmosphere was incredible. We were all stunned by the amount of people singing at the same time. We sang with Matt Cardle and heard him sing his new song! The children were so well behaved and were a credit to the school. See some photos on the clubs page.
4ES Class Shop
On Wednesday, 4ES put together a class shop. Children at the boys and girls club made things to sell, including homemade fudge, playdough recipes and sweeties measured by hand. It was a fantastic afternoon and £80 was raised thanks to the support of parents, other pupils and teachers. Now, 4ES are thinking about where to spend the money!
Ynfinity perform for Glee Club
A group called Ynfinity who are going to be performing at this years VIAM in Wembley on 12th March came to school to perform to Glee club. They played some of our favourite songs such as "Firework" and "We will Rock You". It made us so excited for when it is our turn to perform! For tickets to the event, please visit www.voiceinamillion.com. There is an opportunity for parents to travel with us to London on the coach. Please see Mrs Williams for more details.
Year 1 Warwick Castle Trip
On Monday 27th January, Year 1 had an amazing trip to Warwick castle. We climbed up to the top of the tallest tower, saw a princess and some spectacular birds of prey. The adults found it hard to walk around all day, and some were scared of heights, but we loved it! It really helped to bring our topic of knights and castles to life.
Year 5 Space Topic
Pupils in Year 5 have been learning all about space. As part of their project, children spent a fun and interesting afternoon creating a model of our solar system using coloured clay. The tactile experience really helped to develop the pupils' understanding and a lot of fun was had by all. Thank you Mrs Punjani for having such a brilliant idea!
Year 2 Iron Man Models
This term, year 2 have been learning all about the story The Iron Man. Pupils have told and stepped out the story, before re-writing their own version entitled The Iron Giant. This week, the project culminated in them creating their own giant junk models of the iron giant. As you can see, it seemed like they had great fun getting creative with junk!
Year 5 Trip to Woodstock Museum
Last week, Year 5 went on an exciting trip to the Woodstock Museum. During the visit, pupils dressed up in Victorian costume and experienced what it would have been like to work in a large wealthy household. Pupils also enjoyed exploring Victorian toys and making some Victorian rag rugs. Overall, it was a fantastic day and the pupils really enjoyed themselves.
Children in Need 2013!
Friday 15th November was Children in Need day at Bayards Hill. The pupils arrived in superhero fancy dress or their pyjamas and donated 50p to the good cause. In addition, children spent their pennies at a cake sale and teddy bear tombolo. Thank you to all of the parents and carers that contributed towards this good cause. We appreciate your generosity.
Year 2 Concert Trip
Children in Year 2 went to a very special concert at the Jacqueline De' Pre music building. We saw the clarinet, trumpet, piano and violin being played. We loved the concert and particularly liked our bus ride into the city!
Remy: I loved the concert and riding on the bus!
Teigan: I loved the music, it sounded scary when they played outside the door because we didn't know where they were!
The children were all very well behaved and impressed all of the adults that accompanied them.
Pupils had the great pleasure of listening to the choir group 'Barton Sings' perform a selection of songs from around the world. From banana picking to harvest tunes, the singers were a delight to listen to and the children were absolutely enthralled by the beautiful singing and accompanying drumming. Thank you Barton Sings for a great performance!
Bayards Hill Primary School welcomes parents to come and get involved with their child's learning, whether it be watching an assembly or coming to one of our learning open afternoons. We also welcome offers from parents to support on trips or attend events. Please do get in touch with your child?s class teacher for more information. Also, check out the photographs at the top of the page for some shots of our smart pupils arriving at school with their parents wearing their school uniform. Next week, it could be you...
2EM Class Assembly
On Friday 18th October, 2EM performed their class assembly. Based around the story Jack's Quest, the children retold the tale in their own words while doing some brilliant acting. Well done 2EM for a fantastic morning's entertainment!
The New Building is Underway!
As you will probably have already noticed, the new temporary classrooms are in place and the builders have moved in for the foreseeable future. We have worked carefully alongside the design and building team so that disruption is minimised while the work is being carried out but there will definitely be excitement. Use the green icon on the left hand side of the homepage to see photographs and up to date news about the school build.
